Congratulations on your success at such an early age. As a seventeen year old, what would you say is your biggest musical accomplishment thus far?
Thank you! I think the biggest thing I’ve accomplished so far is signing a publishing deal with Ingrooves. Getting a publishing deal has always been a goal of mine, and I’m so glad to have been able to accomplish this goal.
Explain for us how you came up with your name "Gina Brooklyn".
The name “Gina Brooklyn” came about when my name was originally “Gina Marie”. My team and I realized that there were so many other artists named “Gina Marie” and we were trying to come with another name when it hit me! Marie is my middle name, named after my grandma (she’s totally awesome) and I wanted to keep the second part to my name connected to her and my family. Brooklyn, NY was where she was born, and it’s also where my great grandpa has a statue he created!
Tell us about your song and video "Normal". Who produced it and how did you come up with the treatment for the visuals?
“Normal” was produced by the one and only Idris Aquil!! I am so lucky to have been able to work with someone so talented. For the music video I was able to work with another talented artist named Olise Forel, and I kind of had an idea for the storyline visuals while he executed them perfectly. They played such an important part in this whole thing and I’m so glad I was able to work with them!
What do you enjoy most about being a singer and a songwriter? Do you play any instruments as well?
I think the coolest thing about being a singer/songwriter is being able to inspire others to do so. Every now and then I’ll see a few comments online or even people will come up to me and tell me that I’ve inspired them to sing and write and it makes my heart so happy. Being a female singer/songwriter in this industry is difficult, but being able to inspire younger girls to follow their dreams makes what I’m doing totally worth it. I also play 4 instruments: the piano, guitar, cajon, and ukulele.
You've followed "Normal" up with your newest single/video "Warning". Of all the songs on your upcoming EP, why did you choose that song to release next?
I chose to release “Warning” next because it’s my favorite song on the EP, one that really describes my style and who I am as an artist. We figured it’d be best to first release something on the happier side, then introduce “Warning” to really show who I am.
Speaking of your upcoming EP, what can you tell us about it? Do you have a title or release date yet, and who are the producers you're working with on it?
My upcoming EP is going to be called “Normal”, and I was able to work with two talented producers- Idris Aquil & Jim Naze! The rest of the information I’m going to keep a secret ;)
